incident, was that the charities that should have gotten the money
received only a small percent of the money donated.

twenty-percent incentive to employees who convinced businesses and
individuals to donate. That means that each time a telemarketer got a
pledge of one hundred dollars, the telemarketer got twenty dollars to
keep. The telemarketing company itself got another twenty percent and
with other charges and fees, only a fraction of the money ever made it
to the hands of the charities it had reportedly been collected for.
It would be wonderful if this had been the only reported case of abuse
of the telemarketing system ever, but it is not. Telemarketing New

decides to take the system into its own hands with the only goal being
a profit.
Cases like this are the reason some people only give to selected
charities. Usually, the donor has carefully researched potential
charities and are looking not only for those with a high degree of

inordinate amount of money on overhead, such as fundraisers.
Finding a worthy charity is seldom difficult. There are dozens. Making
sure the telemarketing company currently soliciting your funds are not
